You may have seen an hourglass emoji next to a friend’s name on Snapchat. This emoji is a sign indicating that your Snap Streak is about to end. So, how do you find out how much time you have left?
What is Snap streak?
A Snap Streak is a counter showing how many consecutive days you and a friend have sent snaps to each other. To keep a streak going, both parties must send at least one photo or video snap within 24 hours. Chat messages are not included in the streak.
After how many hours Snapchat streak breaks?
If you see the hourglass emoji, it means time is running out. This emoji usually starts to appear around the 20th hour of the 24-hour window. This means you have approximately 4 hours to save the streak.
However, it doesn’t end there. According to user experiences, this duration can vary:
- For new streaks, the hourglass usually appears very close to the expiration time, leaving you with a short window of 2–3 hours.
- For very long streaks, the time may be slightly extended, and the hourglass can remain for up to 7 hours.
Since Snapchat does not provide a precise countdown, you cannot know exactly how much time you have left. Therefore, to avoid losing your streak, you should do the following:
- Make sure to send a new photo or video snap.
- Snaps sent from Memories do not count.
- Send the snap directly to your friend; group chats do not extend the streak.
In short, as soon as you see the hourglass, send a snap immediately instead of waiting. This way, you both protect your streak and earn extra points for your Snapchat score.
